Race Report
Another great night of short tracks, it never gets old.
The venue has the best spectating and the crowds of fans were phenomenal!
Announcing by the venerable Dave Towle and kick'in tunes.
The mood was set.
Race conditions: It was alittle hot with a slight breeze blowing west - good racing weather.
The hard packed course forced big ring speeds with a few quick hairpins and one nasty climb.
You dropped into the gulley quickly only to be confronted with a very
loose, steep, grunt uphill to the plateau.
Those with skills were able to carry
their speed up the wall. Many dropped to granny for the last 5 meters,
the 30% rest dismounted. It was a toughy, but thats why were here, to make you faster.
The women had an excellent race. Last year's series dominator,
Dellys Starr, returned from down under to take a 'come from behind' win.
The girls forced the pace from the gun and series leader, Kerry Barnholt,
quickly fell off the group. A battle at the front ensued with Michell Hyland,
Megan Monroe, Georgia Gould and Starr. After many attacks, Georgia held the lead
while Starr chased a few seconds back. Starr's tenacity came through again
as she bridged up to Gould and never stopped. The win was bitter sweet
redemption for an injury at the finals last season.
Mens A. The gangly crew of the Trek VW Nickelodeon boys stayed in the action from the get go.
Maverick rider, Mike West, grabbed the hole shot and the full contact continued with
pack riding tactics up until the end. West had a gap on the Kiwi and was gunning for the win,
but a digger in the dust cost Mike to give up the lead and the win.
We'll see you next week. Expect another eye-opening course as were just getting warmed up.
