Race Report
It rained then we raced.
We tried to start on time, but a quick rain before the start
muddied things up. Sorry to the Womens B and Junior bravados who
became mucked up. We stopped and restarted a short time later after the
C men prerode the course into a fine single track. The bravados raced once
again with the C men.
The course was fast with the exception of the turny, twisty Thistle Patch and
the quarter pipe. The QP is basically a 15' wall where the trail reaches
vertical just before the top. You need skills to carry your speed up.
The fastest lap times were under 2 mins.
On the womens side, Kerry Barnholt had a strong start and slowly walked away
with it. Two races back from a separated shoulder
and two wins, not bad.
Mens A Mike West opened up with the hole shot. Mike is currently sitting 3rd in the National
standings for the Pro Super D, so we didn't expect anything less. He was quickly
passed by Collin Becker who crashed seconds later on the QP. Most made it
around the unsightly incident. Fellow Maverick rider Chris Hopwood joined West at the
front, but Colby Pearce stayed close put pressure on with attacks on lap 3.
Collin eventually worked up to the leaders from 10th and went clear with West
only to finish in second place.
Notable Appearances:
Mara Abbot back from put'in it to the NCR women, Cobly Pearce podium
for Mens A, Kevin and the Full Cycle crew, CU Cycling mtb'ers,
the girls from New Zealand, Go Boulder Planner Marni
